Job description
We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) with 3–5 years of experience in managing Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL environments. The role involves administering SQL Server databases on both on-premises and cloud platforms, ensuring high availability, robust security, optimized performance, and disaster recovery. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable collaborating with engineering and infrastructure teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Administration & Configuration
- Provision, configure, and administer SQL Server databases (on Azure VM/Managed Instance).
- Manage security (RBAC, encryption, auditing) and ensure compliance with governance policies.
- Backup, Recovery & HA/DR
- Own and maintain backup/restore strategies (full, differential, log).
- Test recovery processes regularly and implement HA/DR solutions (Availability Groups, Failover Clusters, Geo-replication).
- Performance & Optimization
- Monitor and optimize database performance (query tuning, indexing strategies, statistics maintenance, memory/I/O tuning).
- Track and maintain job health and system performance baselines.
- Maintenance & Automation
- Manage capacity planning, database consistency checks (CHECKDB), index/statistics jobs, and routine maintenance.
- Automate tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, or SQL Agent.
- Produce regular health and performance reports.
- Collaboration & Governance
- Partner with engineering teams to review schema changes and enforce database standards.
- Implement observability (alerts, monitoring, baselines, runbooks) across Azure and on-premises environments.
- Support database migrations, upgrades, and optimization for Azure SQL Database and Managed Instances.
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of hands-on DBA experience with SQL Server (2012–2022).
- Strong expertise in Azure SQL services (Managed Instances, SQL Database, Azure Synapse).
- Proven skills in query tuning, indexing, performance optimization.
- Experience with backup/recovery, HA/DR strategies, and disaster recovery planning.
- Proficiency in T-SQL and PowerShell scripting.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with database automation, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
- Familiarity with cloud security, networking, and governance in Azure.
- Knowledge of replication, multi-master setups, or distributed databases.
